tranman manages G8 fleet

Tranman, the fleet management software from RAC Software Solutions, is being used to prepare and manage the fleet of vehicles specifically assembled to police the G8 Summit on 6-8 July at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland.

The G8 brings together the leaders of the world’s largest industrialised nations. Joining Prime Minister Tony Blair at the event will be President Bush and the political leaders of Japan, France, Germany, Canada, Italy and Russia.

The G8 fleet of vehicles will have to be checked for safety purposes and maintained during the event to enable the G8 force to react to all possible scenarios.

Tranman will be used to monitor the location of the vehicles, manage breakdown and recovery and monitor the costs of running and repairing the fleet during this time.

The Transport Co-ordinator – G8 Special Events Planning, explained: "This has taken months of detailed planning and preparation. We have contingencies in place for every eventuality and Tranman plays a vital role in this operation.

“We could have up to 1,500 vehicles on our fleet for the G8 Summit and we need to know where they are and what state they are in at every moment. Calculations based on this number of vehicles, and on our previous experience, suggest that up to four vehicles a day could potentially be out of service due to maintenance or repair issues.

“We chose Tranman because it has proven to be a reliable and valuable resource for our vehicle management time and time again, and is the preferred fleet software package within the Scottish force fleets. Nothing is left to chance with an operation such as this and every element, including our fleet management, must be buttoned down. I know from experience that Tranman won’t let us down”.
