tranman's flying high

Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIA) are the latest RAC Software customer, adding to the company’s ever-increasing portfolio of airport clients. The Tranman fleet management software will be used to manage a diverse range of 600 vehicles, plant and equipment, across nine workshops and 11 sites in total.

HIA is responsible for providing an efficient, economic and safe airport infrastructure for ten airports in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland: Barra, Benbecula, Campbletown, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Tiree and Wick. All of these airports offer vital social, business and welfare links to otherwise remote communities.

Keith Hodinott, Engineering Manager at HIA: “Our objective was to find a fleet solution that is simple to operate yet extremely effective in terms of best utilisation of our resources. It also had to support us in ensuring the very highest level of vehicle and operator safety. Tranman is extremely flexible and RAC Software Solutions has worked with us to customise the system so that we can better manage our specialist fleet.

“Another reason for our choice is the availability of web portals with Tranman. We have ten sites spread across the Highlands and Islands, plus our headquarters at Inverness and we need to ensure everyone can easily submit or retrieve relevant information, without the need to have the actual software installed for each user.”

As always, RAC Software has worked closely with HIA to create a system specifically for their needs. HIA will use Tranman for easy data capture of its vehicles and related costs. Tranman enables HIA to monitor time taken to maintain and repair its vehicles, and better plan vehicle maintenance and resource allocation.

The screen design and web portals ensure that all the HIA Tranman users, which include engineers, fire service, air traffic and administration, can spend minimal time at the keyboard while gaining the maximum benefit from the information provided.

HIA will use Tranman to record the allocation of HQ pool vehicles that are utilised to support the activities of the head office departments. It will also be used to record accidents and will match the criteria included on standard insurance claim forms, to minimise time taken to complete the necessary paperwork.

Basic personnel details with regard to driver licensing and the airside driving permits system will be recorded as well as the training received, competencies and penalty points. This part of the records system will also be of assistance in identifying drivers that are falling into a “high risk” category and will be of benefit in the Management of Occupational Road Risk (MORR). Looking to the future, HIA plans to develop its use of Tranman to record the technical training of its Motor Transport (MT) engineers as well to manage the issue of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing within the MT department.
