Tranman helps commercial vehicle operators beat new emissions standards with AdBlue
From October 2006, Euro IV emissions standards for commercial vehicles come into effect. All new vehicles registered after this date will be required to conform to tighter emissions regulations. To meet these regulations, truck manufacturers including Mercedes, DAF and Iveco have installed an advanced pollution control technology in the exhaust system called Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). The SCR system uses a product called AdBlue, which is stored in a separate tank and sprayed into the exhaust gases to reduce exhaust emissions.
VT Software Solutions has been working closely with its customers affected by the new Euro IV standards in preparation for the October 2006 deadline. Allied Bakeries, one of the UK’s largest bakeries, has been using Tranman to manage its fleet for over 10 years. Chris Davies, Distribution Technical Manager at Allied Bakeries has been trialling two new HGV’s with SCR technology for the last 18 months. The results of the trial have confirmed that mpg is higher for HGV’s using AdBlue, partially offsetting the costs of purchasing AdBlue. Chris Davies comments “For a company like Allied Bakeries, the impact of using AdBlue needs to be accurately measured. We operate 1,000 heavy goods vehicles and cover 40 million miles per year, therefore it makes a huge difference to our costs if AdBlue consumption is 3% or 5% of diesel use. Tranman will help us monitor these changes and to plan for the future.”
The Tranman software will record data on AdBlue use from either fuel cards or internal bunkered tanks. As well as recording AdBlue consumption, the Tranman software will enable customers to report on the percentage of AdBlue consumption against diesel. Ian Searle, Sales & Marketing Director, VT Software Solutions says “In today’s environment of rising fuel prices, the management of fuel and now Adblue is a major concern to fleet operators. Accurate management information such as the reports available in Tranman is vital to maintain a competitive advantage.”
